UpSweden Gävles lysande DJ, producent, klubbarangör, videokonstnär och i största allmänhet ärkehygglo Viktor Eriksson, a.k.a. Slim Vic blev en av de 25 DJs som valdes ut av Arvikafestivalen i deras tävling för hela landets DJs om ett gig. UpSweden gratulerar! Missa inte hans gig om ni är där!

 Casual Friday till Peace &Love!

Casual Friday knäckte i musiktidningen Grooves omröstning och blev ett av tre band som får åka till Peace & Love i Borlänge i år! I hård konkurrens från dryga 30-talet andra artister visade umeåbandet var stärkaren ska stå!
De ställer upp på groove-scenen under lördagen och delar då speldag med mindre kända namn som WASP, Mustasch, Håkan Hellström och Adam Tensta.

 upSweden skall bli riksorganisation!

upSweden växer och växer, och med anledning av det så kommer vi att söka
för att få bli en riksorganisation. Vi ansöker detta hos ungdomsstyrelsen (US)
som tillsammans med svenska spel ger ekonomiskt stöd till flertalet
ungdomsorganisationer i Sverige.
Uppstartningsstödet från US är på ca 1 miljon kronor och skulle få en
betydande roll i det stöd som upSweden kan ge till er medlemmar.
Lite exempel på vad vi skulle göra ifall vi fick stödet är följande:
1. Avsätta mer tjänstetid för promotion och mediabevakning
2. Ge turnéstöd.
3. Kostnadstäcka arrangemang.
4. Anställa en person som arbetar med att söka in mer projektpengar till
projekt som gynnar er medlemmar.
5. Subventionera pris på upptryckning av affischer/skivor/merch.
6. Erbjuda fler utbildningar.
7. Arrangera fler riktade branschspelningar.
8. Köpa annonsplats för er i riktad musikmedia.
9. Göra fler festivaler
För att detta skall bli möjligt att söka måste upSweden ha tusen
medlemmar
där 60 % är under 25 år, något som vi i dagsläget inte har, men som
kan
bli möjligt med ER hjälp.
Om varje lokal förening tillsammans värvar 50 nya medlemmar var, är
målet på 1000 medlemmar uppfyllt.

 Klas Eriksson gästar Siestafestivalen

Det har varit en hektisk vår för Klas Eriksson, fylld med ett flertal spelningar på bla. KB & Debaser.
Klas har under våren även färdigställt ett ep-släpp.
Vi har sett Klas hårda promotion arbete och vill passa på att higlighta att bandet kommer att gästa Siestafestivalen i Hässleholm. Bra jobbat Klas!

 Parkpop i Folkets Park

I sommar kommer upSweden Malmö tillsammans med SFR Malmö anordna 5 spelningar i folkets park.
Den 31/5, 14/6, 28/6, 12/7 och 9/8 kommer ni kunna se inte mindre än 11 upSwedenakter på scen.

Äntligen har upSweden Malmös världsmästare på poplåtsnickeri, Jon Rinneby färdigställt sin skiva.

Immaculates album ute nu

Uppsalas thrashmetalhämnare Immaculate har nu sin stenhårda fullängdare "Thrash Kill'n'Deströy" ute på tyska skivbolaget Witches Brew och kan beställas från hela världen. Johan Bodings karriär är i full gång, just nu är han aktuell med sin nya singel "The Reason".  Hård konkurrens stoppar inte Eric

Eric Palmqwist, en av upSwedens medlemmar har nu i dagarna fått sina första cuts/ placeringar genom forumet SongQuarters. Tillsammans med Mats Hedström har han bland annat gjort en låt som kommer att släppas i Lettland, Norge och eventuellt i England. Kontakterna för detta har bland annat knutits via SongQuarters. Låtskrivare och producenter kan via SongQuarters leta efter de just nu 500 mest framgångsrika artister och de artister som just nu vill ha låtar, som andra skriver, till deras kommande inspelningar. Konkurrensen är stor på SongQuarters och alla världens stora låtskrivare och producenter finns på sidan. Att lyckas få en låt förmedlad där innebär att låtskrivaren eller producenten måsta vara väldigt bra på det han/hon gör.

 Bara bättre för The Genuine Fakes

The Genuine Fakes, powerpopbandet från Södermalm i Stockholm är i final i den prestigefyllda Metro Music Challenge. Av de 1800 band som anmält sig ligger The Genuine Fakes på topp 20 listan. Vinsten i tävlingen är en marknadsföringskampanj värd 3,5 miljoner i tidning Metro och i radio samt spelningar på några av Sveriges största scener i sommar. Det är publiken som bestämmer vilket band som vinner genom att rösta på sin favorit. Röstningen startar måndagen den 14 april 2008.
Metro Music Challenge är bara en del av de framgångar som The Genuine Fakes har nu. Den 15 april släpper Skivbolaget Burning Sky Records en 3CD’s samlingsskiva som heter Beautiful Escape: The Songs of The Posies Revisited. Skivan är full med covers av The Posies låtar. The Genuine Fakes är med på skivan med covern Somehow Everything. Alla låtar som är med på den 45-spåriga samlingsskivan är tolkade av band från olika delar av världen men även de gamla The Posies medlemmarna Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow, Joe Skyward och Brian Young har bidrag med på skivan.

 Biljetter till Mando Diao

Nu har drygt 35 personer fått en biljett till Fredagens konsert med Mando Diao, som kompensation för att de gjorde illa sig under förra årets Amplified-festival. Pga administrativa orsaker kommer inga ansökningar om biljetter som inkommer efter kl 14 den 27/3 att hinna behandlas. Vi på upSweden hoppas att alla som fått en biljett har en underbar kväll och att de passar på att träffa bandet på Fredag kl 1630 i tonsalen på Folkets Hus, för att få en autograf och en pratstund med bandet. Ingången är vid Studion, på sidan av byggnaden.

 UpSwedens nya sampler uppe!!!

Vi på upSweden crew har nu valt de 18 låtar som kommer ligga på denna upplaga av vår sampler, även känd som VIP-promon. Det har utan tvekan varit den hårdaste uttagningen nånsin, och vi har definitivt den bästa promon hittills. Vi lyssnade på över 70 låtar, valde ut ett trettiotal till en andra omgång, lyssnade igen och genomförde sedan en nervslitande melodifestivalsomröstning som gav oss den slutgiltiga listan.
Alla av oss fick se personliga favoriter försvinna från den slutliga cutten, och faktum är att vi definitivt kunna sätta ihop en till promo som fortfarande hållit yppersta klass. Det här är jättekul för oss, för det visar att upSwedens akter det senaste året växt i både omfattning och kvalitet.
Promon finns nu upplagd överst på vår promosida, och i en forumstråd under "info" finns hela listan på de som tog sig till den "andra omgången" men inte hela vägen. Alla som lämnat in bidrag kommer även få vår sammanfattade feedback av sin lokalt ansvarige.
Nu kommer vi inleda arbetet med promon, vilket innebär utskick till radiokanaler, tidningar, produktionsbolag, skivbolag och allehanda branschaktörer. Ett ofantligt big up till alla superduktiga upSwedenakter! Och tappa inte sugen ni som inte kom med, till nästa uttagning kan det vara er tur!

 Mando Diao och upSweden bjuder dom skadade på biljett!

Förra året så hände något som inte får ske. Golvet under flera hundra personer gick sönder under en Mando Diao spelning i Umeå. Ett trettiotal personer skadades så kraftigt att dom fick söka läkarhjälp.
Sedan dess har det inte givits något bra tillfälle för Mando Diao att spela i Umeå.
Men nu är det Äntligen dags! Mando Diao åker till Umeå igen!
Extra glada är Mando Diao att dom blivit inbjudna att spela på Norra Sveriges bästa festival, Umeå Open.
Med anledning av det som hände förra året så vill nu Mando Diao och UpSweden bjuda de som skadades i golvraset på biljetten till Mando Diaos konsert på Umeå Open. I samband med detta anordnar även bandet en samling för samtliga berörda som vill komma och träffa Mando Diao på Norrlandsoperans café.

 På turné med upSweden - Din chans att komma ut och spela!

UpSweden drar nu stolt och förväntansfullt igång ett rikstäckande projekt som har syftet att främja livemusik! Det kallas På Turné, och går bland annat ut på att vi bygger upp ett nätverk av spelställen och hjälper oetablerade men duktiga och superpeppade band/artister att åka på mindre turnéer, i första hand i de tio städer vi finns, men i förlängningen förhoppningsvis ännu fler.
Vi kommer boka spelningar på ställen med bra förutsättningar, hjälpa till med planering, budget, praktiska detaljer och kostnadstäckning. Antalet platser är än så länge väldigt begränsat, liksom vår budget, men vi hoppas projektet ska slå rot, växa och bli nåt riktigt stort!

 UpSweden Liveklubb på vinylbaren!

För att ge oss alla en bra start på det nya året, så startar upSweden en liveklubb på vinylbaren i Malmö med premiär den 26:e januari.
Varje lönehelg 18 – 23 hela våren kan ni beskåda livemusik och deejays i denna bar som går i klassisk amerikansk stil. Klubbnamnet Tower of songs är inspirerat av Leonard Cohen och musiken kommer röra sig i gränslandet mellan singer/singwriters, loficountry, indie och postrock. Inträdet kommer att vara kostnadsfritt!

 Centen States nya rockrökare imponerar!

Med upSwedens VIP sampler/album i åtanke har Centen State frambringat en riktig rökare till rocklåt! Den har redan efter endast EN VECKA fått väldigt bra respons på nätet, detta är några exempel:
2:a på topplistan Allears-Göteborg.
1:a på topplistan Jamma v.2 genre rock- kategori bästa låt, bästa artist.
Hela 9,82/10 i medel för låten "Burn" på Songbox (topplisteuppdatering sker inatt.) Det luktar listetta!

Välkommen till upSwedens rockfestival, Amplified, 25-26/1 2008! Festivalen har nu hittat fast mark under fötterna och arrangeras tillsammans med Studiefrämjandet för andra året i rad, denna gång på Folkets Hus i Umeå.
Här kommer vi som vanligt blanda nationellt kända rockband med de bästa ditona från upSweden till en liveupplevelse av astronomiska proportioner!
De största namnen på scen denna gång är Soundtrack of our lives och Cult of Luna. De upSweden-band som uppträder är
Three Minute Madness, Johnny Rocket & The Broncos, This Night Without, Kautschuk, The Koo-Koo's och The Breeze The Breath.

 Kraftig upSwedenrepresentation på 100% osignat

Vårt samarbete med Studiefrämjandet under deras koncept 100% osignat blir allt mer omfattande. Kring kommande månadsskifte är vi tungt representerade på inte mindre än fyra 100% osignat-arrangemang, i Stockholm, Göteborg, Västerås och Gävle. 29/11 gäller Alcazar i Stockholm med bara upSwedenakter, närmare bestämt olika former av elektropop från look-look, Yeah Someday (bilden) och Small Feral Token, hip hop på svenska med uppmärksammade och videoaktuelle Frispråkarn och svängig livesoul/r'n'b med den fantastiske Rigael Damar. Får ej missas! 4/12 rockar Centen State loss på Sticky Fingers i Göteborg, 6/12 är det dags för en rejäl upSwedenkickoff på Spegeln i Gävle, där Shallow Sense, Genuine Fakes och Scissormen spelar tillsammans med lokala förmågorna Green Orange och Isobel and November. Som om inte detta vore nog gör vi ett nytt besök på Sigurdsgatan 25 i Västerås den 8/12 där Malin Vulcano, Vargpakten och Minna Danell Band håller upSwedenfanan högt. Mer info här..

 Samplern - upSwedens ansikte utåt

För närvarande bedriver upSweden arbete med den nuvarande samplern (eller VIP-promon som den kallas i folkmun...). Den går ut till en mängd aktörer såsom media, konsertarrangörer och produktionsbolag och följer med oss på stora branschmässor. Tanken med samplern är inte bara att skapa uppmärksamhet kring våra för tillfället allra vassaste akter, utan även att få fok uppmärksamma på kvaliteten hos våra akter och få dem att besöka hemsidan och kolla upp även resten. Nu är det dock dags att samla in musik till en ny sampler, vilken lär bli vår bästa nånsin, med tanke på alla nya utmärkta akter som kommit med på sistone. Konkurrensen lär därmed också bli knivskarp! Information om hur du, som upSweden-akt, anmäler intresse av att vara med på promon finns här. Deadline är sista december.

 The Genuine Fakes hyllar The Posies

Powerpopbandet The Genuine Fakes är just nu i studion och spelar in sitt debutalbum som kommer släppas under nästa år.  Västerås representerar i internationell bandtävling

Indierock-bandet Shallow Sense och elektropopduon Vargpakten, båda två upSwedenakter från Västerås tävlar i den stora internationella musiktävlingen Bodog Battle, och spelar live på Debaser i Stockholm när den europeiska säsongen drar igång efter den stora succén i USA. Tävlingens europeiska del kommer att utöver Stockholm även besöka bland annat London, Berlin, Dublin och Amsterdam för att slutligen samla de bästa banden i den stora finalen i London.

 Digital Tone Festival 2007

Digital Tone Festival är en av Sveriges största inomhusfestivaler för Hiphop & Electronic och har arrangeras av musikföreningen upSweden sedan 1998.
Årets festival gästas bland annat av Christian Falk med gäster, Lo Fi Fnk, Familjen, Adam Tensta, Supersci samt en än så länge hemlig utländsk artist
Den 19e Oktober släpps hälften av akterna och den 26e Oktober släpps resterande akter. Christians Falks mycket intressanta och aktuella gäster presenteras två veckor innan festivalen.
Tanken bakom festivalen är att låta musikföreningen upswedens upcoming akter och DJ:s inom hiphop, club och elektronisk musik få chansen att möta en stor publik tillsammans med aktuella rikskända artister. Festivalen har växt från en mindre lokal företeelse i början till en av Sveriges största inomhusfestivaler för elektronisk musik och hiphop.
Festivalen hålls på Corona som ligger i campusområdet vid Umeå Universitet som med sina tre scener och mysiga lokaler är en ultimat lokal för festivalen. Nytt för i år är att vi bygger upp ett massivt dansgolv med en mäktig ljusrigg för festivalens DJ:s.
Tidigare på festivalens scen har bla. Latin Kings, Heed, Howard Jones, Looptroop, Chris Clark, Organism 12, Alf Tumble, Spånka NKPG, Afasi & Filthy spelat

I vår senaste upSwedenstad, Västerås, har vår samarbetspartner Studiefrämjandet låtit oss helt själva välja ut band till en ren upSweden-edition av 100% osignat, något vi såklart mer än gärna gjorde! 1 september kan man på Sigurdsgatan 25 se emorockarna Shallow Sense (bilden) på samma scen som Small Feral Token, Stoneflowers, Genuine Fakes och Bedfellows.  upSweden-webben får nytt liv!

Vi har nu gått igenom större delen av materialet på upSweden och implementerat nya funktioner. Största skillnaden är att akterna nu presenteras på ett enhetligt och stilrenare sätt. Musik och videos både här och på "lyssna/promo-sidan" spelas upp via flash-spelare, vilket gör att materialet spelas upp enklare, snabbare och på samma sätt oavsett om du kör PC eller Mac. Nya sökfunktioner på akt-sidan gör att du snabbt listar akter per stad eller genre, samt en effektiv fritextsökning som uppdataterar resultaten medan du skriver.

 Matias Lehtola - En ensam vandrare

Efter ett fullbokat 2006 med remixar för bl.a Scooter, Rachel McFarlane, Sound Fiction, Cascada, Emma och att inte glömma hans otroligt vackra "Burning Bright" som blev spelad av så gott som alla DJ's som även fick sin speltid på dom hetaste showerna från Armin's Asot till tysklands stolthet Sunshine Live genom den engelska mega stationen BBC Radio.
I sommar finner ni honom på dom hetaste clubbarna genom södra Europa till dom mörkaste skogarna öster om Eden.
Just nu jobbar Matias med att sätta sitt stämpel på flertal pop produktioner som har blivit beställda från bl.a Avex Japan och Sony Fin. En låt har även blivit inspelad hos Tomas Törnholm i Västerås som skrev bl.a schlager hitten "Live Forever" med Magnus Carlsson.
För att sätta punkt över nyheten så har Matias låt "Hold My Hand" - (som ni kan bla höra gratis på Myspace) blivit handplockad till en 8 avsnitt lång dokumentär film i USA. Som ser sitt dagsljus i slutet av år 2007.
Matias Lehtola visar definitivt vägen för den unga generationen av producenter som kommer att leda scenen framöver.

 Amplified - On Solid Ground

Nu är det spikat att det blir en uppföljare till upSwedens rockfestival Amplified. Efter förra årets rasolycka har huvudakten Mando Diao lovat att återkomma tillsammans med övriga akter som inte kunde spela på grund av olyckan. Till dessa kommer ett tiotal nya akter att presenteras inom kort tillsammans med lokal och entrépriser.

 Napoleon släpper singel och spelar in fullängdare!

Uppsalas stoltheter Napoleon släppte sin debutsingel "Cleopatra" den 2/6 på Mondo Nuevo Records. Bandet spelar för närvarande in sin efterlängtade fullängdsdebut i Stockholm.  Vänliga Jättar gör datorspelsmusik

Erik Emmanuelsson, alias Vänliga Jättar, har gjort musiken till ett Gameboy Advance-spel.
Det är DHG Games spel "Motocross Challenge" som ursprugligen skulle släppts officiellt, men som efter att Nintendo i sista minuten backat ur i stället släppts gratis på nätet och blivit en stor succé. Den som inte har ett gameboy med den speciella zipdisk som krävs för icke officiella spel, kan avnjuta det fartfyllda motorcykelspelet på sin dator med hjälp av emulator. Ladda ner det här!.

 Sheraye släpper singel!

Sheraye från upSweden Stockholm släpper platta på nystartade skivbolaget Mondo Nuevo Records. Låten heter Lalalaley och har mixats av Rodrigo Munoz som tidigare jobbat med Ane Brun och Ron Sexsmith.
Sheraye bokas av Subkultur Bookings och en fullängdare är planerad till hösten.

 All Ears på plats i Umeå

Den rikstäckande musiksajten All EARS öppnar lokala sajter i Umeå samt Göteborg där den lokala musikscenen skall sättas i rampljuset. Detta innebär bland annat att lokala topplistor presenteras i TV4 lokaltv och att videos från lokala osignade band kommer att väljas ut och visas av Jan Axelsson.
All EARS kommer att samarbeta med upSweden på olika plan, stay tuned för mer info.

 Face Front festivalen för unga amatörartister.

Den 4-5 maj hålls den sjunde upplagan av Face Front festivalen i Piteå. Face Front, som är Sveriges största festival för amatörer, riktar sig till unga artister och konstnärer med ambitionen att skapa en arena där de får möjligheten att visa upp och utveckla sitt skapande under gynnsamma former. Målet är att skapa en mötesplats för unga kreativa där de kan möta en subjektiv och objektiv kritik från näringsliv, kommun, högskola och allmänhet för att öka kunskapen.
Detta år flyttas festivalen tillbaka till Nolia City Konferens, men liksom förra året kommer festivalen att bjuda på ett stort utbud av konst, i alla former. Det finns inga mallar på hur konsten ska se ut, det är det egna skapandet som är i fokus. Förutom att ett 60-tal band kommer spela under festivalen, kommer unga kreatörer inom konst, foto, film och textil att visa upp sina alster. Festivalen kommer även att bjuda på dansuppvisningar, workshops och seminarier.

Olycka på konsert

Under Mando Diaos uppträdande rasade en sektion av publikytans golv, och konsertbesökare föll ned till våningen under. Ett 20-tal ungdomar skadades, dock ingen livshotande. Alla skadade fick vård och fördes snabbt till sjukhus. Samtal med krisgrupp kommer att erbjudas. Information om detta kommer att presenteras på www.amplifiedfestival.se under söndagen den 28 januari 2007. Polisen har inlett en teknisk utredning av olyckan. Efter långa förhandlingar mellan Norrlandsoperan och upSweden kan vi nu med stolthet och glädje meddela att arrangemanget kommer vara öppet för alla! (I baren är åldersgränsen dock satt till 20 år.)
Den 26-27 januari går Amplified av stapeln på Norrlandsoperan i Umeå. Festivalen bjuder på framträdanden av några av Sveriges just nu bästa live-akter, eller vad sägs om Mando Diao, Randy och Totalt Jävla Mörker.
Dessa flankeras av Sveriges bästa osignade rockband med albumaktuella norrlandsbanden Three Minute Madness och Karavan i täten.
Sammanlagt återfinns 12 band på scen under två dagar för en fullmatad festivalhelg som på lördagen kompletteras med demopanel, clinics i musikproduktion och föreläsningar i upphovsrätt och digital distribution.

 VJ, Zoi, Saori och Fotkul i elektronisk dansperforma

Efter den lyckade skrotmusikalen om revolutionen i tomteskogen så ska dessa kreatörer nu genomföra sitt mest komplexa gig någonsin. En experimentmusikal om att hitta tillbaka till kroppen från huvudet. Precis som tidigare framträdanden så är denna performance livsbejakande och civilisationskritisk. En visuellt häpnadsväckande konsert-pjäs.
Musiken består av en blandning av elektro-akustisk musik och de mer framåtblickande delarna av den elektroniska dansscenen(dubstep, ragga-jungle/core. Electrobass, techno m.m.). Musik och performance kommer vara både improviserad och inrepad och framförs till större delen med elektronisk hårdvara som trummaskiner och effektpedaler.
Nytt material med Saori kommer framföras för första gången.
Det finns mycket mer man skulle vilja berätta om, men det skulle vara att beröva publiken en hel drös av fantastiska överraskningar.
För scenen står Moonshake, Umeås enda arena för fri musik. Moonshake har gjort sig kända för att backa upp den fria musiken lokalt men också för att bjuda in delar av det utländska vanguardet.

Erik Emanuelsson aka Vänliga jättar aka Subcomandante is one of the six winners in the Sampleoidz.co.uk Production Competition .
The competition was announced at ragga-jungle.com and all the competitors was limited to using the same(breakbeat and dancehall flavored) samples, handpicked by jungle legend Bizzy B, who also was one of the judges.

 Cryonic lands european record deal!

Upsweden´s so far only contribution to the world of power metal, the mighty Cryonic, has landed a record deal with Swedish metal label Swedmetal (obviously!), home of Swedish metal legends of the 80´s such as 220 Volt, Nasty Idols and Bai Bang. They were the very first label to hear the bands EP.
Cryonic will release a 10-song album called "Evil Mind" which will be distributed in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, and Spain. The record is in the making, recorded by the band themselves and to be mastered by Kjell Nästén himself. It will contain a varied mix of fast power metal riffs, heavy "Mötley Crüe-type stuff" and the odd ballad.
"Evil Mind" is slotted for release during late autumn this year.

Yes, we´re proud to announce that some of upSwedens finest electronic acts will be performing a 4-hour showcase gig at Sweden´s most important festival for strictly electronic music, Norbergfestival!
The festival is July 27th-29th, and the upSweden showcase will be on the 28th.
Here are the terrific artists that will play, and an update on their situation:
Addeboy vs Cliff, our indeed very hard rocking house duo, is currently putting together their long-awaited debut album, which will be released on their own label.
Brotherhood of Broken Hearts, where quirky electro meets shiny indie pop, are gigging and recording new material to present to an interested record company.
Hammerschmidt, minimalist electro newcomers, are playing their first ever gig at Norberg. They´re writing loads of new material and recently had a song featured among other swedish artists accompanying an exclusive Nokia mobile phone designed by We.
iRod, peddler of unearthly electronica, is taking his music in a loungier, more acoustic and possibly even stranger direction, as well as producing and remixing for various other artists.
His gig will also feature turntable cuts from the ever multi-active DJ Vänlig (a.k.a Vänliga Jättar), who will also provide entertainment between acts and a DJ set in the Moosepit.
Johan Afterglow, our man of the funky electro-tech, has hit the big time and signed with italian label 9 records where his new album "Exterminate All Rational Thought" is out now, together with singles and droves of remixes.
Small Feral Token, electropop godesses, are currently band of the month on Metica.se and are putting new material together as well as shaping up and collecting old stuff for a forthcoming full-length debut album.

 Contardo & Tocclo on the move

upSweden-act Ingrid Contardo along with her dedicated producer Simon Tocclo are finally about to launch their long awaited debute album "The long road to salvation". Expectations from world wide media have been massive due to released preview-snippets. The track "Alright", co-produced with Addeboy from Addeboy vs Cliff last year reached top 1 on Beatload online music store, leading to appearences in Los Angeles radio and performances in Ingrids hometown Umeå as well as promotional visits to Paris, France.
The album is due in late november together with the first video - directed and all 3D animated by Argentinean artist and musician Omar Kichi. "It's a great honour both to be working with Omar as well as representing Umeå and upSweden internationally with such a unique video as this one is." Simon says enthusiastically. "It's been our strategy to lie low, apart from our sold out performances in Umeå", Ingrid continues, "The main focus has all along been set on finishing the album".
Ingrid and Simon joined upSweden in 2003 and is a great example of the communities strength, making use of our vast business connections in the process of launching the album. Here a sneak preview image from the video they claim will "change the world"!

Yes, upSweden "represented" at D-Day, picking up demos from hopeful bands who want to join us, but also handing out our promo albums to visitors.
Small Feral Token did a short gig down at Stacken, and Sheraye performed on the big stage (picture right), alongside bands like Mylla and Callahan. Quite a large audience saw her perform, and most seemed very impressed, judging from the thundering applause she drew!

UpSweden has started a cooperation with the club Carpe Noctem, also known as Bonden, located not far from upSweden Stockholm. UpSweden acts will play live there on Tuesdays, but they might also be playing on other days, as part of the establishment´s other arrangements. To begin with, primarily Uppsala and Stockholm acts will be playing, but the plan is to bring hungry acts from all over Sweden to Stockholm for live gigs. Were making a roaring start, too: First up is Uppsala folk/jazz/pop act Ellinor Skagegård and Mistletoe (picture right), who will play this Sunday, March 26. Next Thursday, March 30, it´s time for Stockhoms number one electro fiend Johan Afterglow.

upSweden-act Rico has signed a contract with swedish supercar-maker Koenigsegg, allowing them to use his music in commercials and information-videos.
Under the pseudonym Wheel, he writes music based on wide landscapes of sweeping melodical synths on top of simple yet prominent beats. Rico says he was contacted through promotion made by upSweden and hopes this can lead to a long term partnership. Hopefully we will in a near future see a Koenigsegg CCR nicely parked outside Rico's garage!

Yes, people. After a slow-burning start, we´re now finally in full swing. So, as the mastermind of the Uppsala edition of upSweden, let me introduce you to some of the new acts!
First there´s those long-time underground trancemeisters of Schlabbaduerst Rekkords, namely Ka-Sol and Battle Of The Future Buddhas. This is scary stuff, as far from the commercial trance scene as you can get....Both acts are often out gigging, making Europe an unsafe place wherever they go. Check out their website!
Next up, we´re proud to announce upSwedens first proper roots reggae soundsystem, Meditative Sounds. Apart from being one of Swedens few REAL soundsystems (meaning: they bring their own speakers, the size of a small bus; they sometimes stop songs halfway through and play them from the top again, and, more importantly, they have great live singers chanting over the records) they also produce modern roots music with a lot of national and international names behind the mike.
We also have stylish stooges/MC5-rockers Mother And Sun, young soul/funk-pop combo Wide, excellent producer/songwriter/mad scientist Unstuck Music, and a bunch of other people making everything from digidub to electropop to two-man thrash metal. And some people you already know from upSweden Stockholm, such as Stina Nygårds and Skomm.

Two of our greatest live acts Karavan ( see picture) and Addeboy vs. Cliff are right now up for exclusive promotion at Songbox.net. Their monthly newletter to important acts in the Swedish Music Business will continue to feature two of the hottest upSweden artists, bands, songwriters and producers for the moment. Stay tuned for the January line up.
Shortly upSweden acts will also start to pop up in the new cdon.com music download store. The first acts set for release are Apan, Block 44, Skomm and Wasai.

We’re now able to handle your mp3-demos more easily with the outstanding new service, Songbox.Net that makes it possible for you as an artist, song writer or producer to more smoothly get in touch with the right persons in the Swedish music industry, including the upSweden crew. Songbox also makes it easier for us to handle your incoming songs.
Starting in December a couple of upSweden acts will each month be selected by Songbox for unique promotion towards the commercial players in the industry, including record companies and music publishers.

 Howard Jones live at Digital Tone Festival!

upSwedens annual electronica festival and most precious event, Digital Tone Festival, is this year taking place on the 25th and 26th of november. As always we mix famous performers with acts from our own community.
Headlining this year is 80's synth-guru Howard Jones who after topping charts all over the world, now is material for modern remixers like Eric Prydz. With hits like "What is love", (no, not talking about Haddaway...) and "Things can only get better" flashbacks are guaranteed to many of us! Can't dance to 80's music? Then swedish house collective Spånka NKPG will be glad to get you moving!
Hiphop-fans will get their share with a mix of some of the greatest acts today, such as swedish hiphop-ensembles Looptroop and Afasi&Filthy. From USA we present hiphop legend Freestyle.
upSweden acts this year is among others, Addeboy vs. Cliff, Block 44, Apan, Johan Afterglow and Populärmusik. Also introducing Brotherhood of broken hearts.

 Trästockfestivalen 2005

This weekend it's time for the annual free Trästock festival in Skellefteå, which beyond any doubt is the best of it's kind in Sweden. It's known for putting quality first, and showcasing a lot of fresh acts to a wide audience.

 Congratulations to Johan Afterglow!

upSweden act Johan Afterglow has completed two remixes of Bodies Without Organs, the latest project from the swedish producer Alexander Bard. The remixes are both signed to EMI and are chart-toppers all over eastern Europe. This spring we could also listen to Johans’ music in the swedish TV-drama “Coachen”.

 upSweden acts performing at Hultsfred

This year, upSweden acts will perform at The Hultsfred Festival, the largest and longest running youth-oriented music festival in Sweden.
Currently the acts confirmed are Addeboy vs. Cliff and Apan. These bands would both well fit in as "the perfect live-act" with extraordinary shows well suited for any kind of audience seeking pounding beats and high energy experiences. However not meaning that they do the same type of music.
Addeboy vs. Cliff is a computer based house duo that loves playing with samples and transforming them into steady beats with catchy tunes. On top of a computer background they play analogue drums, guitar and synthesizer. A wild session is guaranteed!
Apan is a, not so traditional, hip hop band with vocals strongly influenced by regional language with many elements of irony. The backgrounds are catchy wich combined with the lyrics make very hit-emphasized tracks.
These two bands always try to surpass themselves in delivering the most captivating performances, and you know Hultsfred is the perfect environment for heavy live shows! Stay tuned for updated information on more acts at Hultsfred. See you there!

Our upSweden acts are definitely on the roll right now! Following the Mango gig in Stockholm last Thursday, Apan have released their second promotion CD featuring the smash hit "Känslan är total" (also available on the upSweden Promo CDs).
The fresh Malmö act B.A.R opened for Wilmer X at the Midnight Rock@b&b in Halmstad, February 25th. Their sweet pop tunes have also gained some airplay on Swedish radio lately, and they were announced the music profile of the week by P4 Halland.
Our finest house duo Addeboy vs. Cliff recently got the first official cut with their remix of Spånka NKPGs latest single "City of the Golden king", which now is available in all well-stocked record stores.

In the very beginning of March upSweden will once again release promo CDs with the best material upSweden has to offer today. This time the promos will consist of four CDs in different contemporary music styles: Pop/Rock, Hip Hop/Rn’B, Electronica. The Fourth CD is the SongWriter Promo, which will be released later this year. All CDs will be available for download at upsweden.com.
The material will be sent to over 300 different record labels, music publishers, radio stations and live venues in order to promote our acts. The release will be celebrated with a promotion gig at Mango Bar in Stockholm for invited guests from various companies in the music business. The gig will be headlined by Addeboy vs. Cliff, Apan, AB, Cat Burglar and Ingrid Contardo. Ingrid Contardo is right now making the lists on the recently opened Beatload Music Store with the song "Alright".

 The Expansion

Six years into the upSweden story it’s time for the biggest change so far. In January 2005 upSweden will open up three new communities in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. upSweden which started out as a community for music acts in northern Sweden now works across the whole country with a little bit more then 100 active acts, songwriters and producers.
upSweden Stockholm will be situated in central Stockholm between Hötorget and the Central Station in a modern environment with project studios and one Pro Tools equipped recording studio.
In Gothenburg upSweden will be situated in the famous Brew House Complex together with more then 30 different companies working within the music and movie business. The expansion also includes three brand new faces in the upSweden staff. In Stockholm Liza Henze will be in charge, in Malmö Johan Axelsson and in Gothenburg Daniel Viklund. Exciting times ahead.

Artists like Queen, Abba and David Bowie became pioneers when the production of music videos started on a regular basis in the mid-70’s. But it wasn’t until 1981, when MTV began their broadcasts, that music videos got a final breakthrough. Today it’s considered the supreme way to promote your music, and now our upSweden acts are making their way into the game.
The experienced twins ofBlock 44have recently released their second album, called Fortissimo. Along with the album they’ve also made a neat video for the opening track“Större perspektiv”. You can watch the videohere.

Letting go of the songs

Inside the UpSweden Music Community a vast production of original songs takes place, basically around the clock. The difficult part is to get the music heard, and now UpSweden is taking a crucial step towards the international music scene. We've completed a membership in SongQuarters, a worldwide music publishing and songwriting service who are representing the world's 500 most successful artists.
Valuable and updated information regarding the recording status of these artists, as well as a respectable list of upcoming artists, is provided directly from their A&R's or manager's office. This gives the songwriters and producers we're working closely with the opportunity to pitch their songs and beats directly to a desired artist, without using middlemen like publishers. Hopefully this effort will one day result in our first cut!

Rolling all over the world…

upSweden has reached its final destination. Luleå is the fourth and final outpost for the upSweden Music Community which now spans from Umeå in the south to Luleå the North.
The community in Luleå will be run by Christoffer Demby, a sound technician and producer in his own right with a degree in sound recording and experience from working at the Swedish Radio for three years. upSweden will be working with 15 different acts in Luleå which brings the total number of acts up to a rather impressive 75! From initial reports, Luleå seems to be quite a mixed bunch of acts. So far we introduced two songwriters, two singer songwriters, two rock´n roll bands and a couple of hiphop acts to the new community.
upSweden Luleå has just like Umeå a professional recording studio in the complex which can be used by the upSweden acts on spare time, isn´t life just great!
More good news: after a short slump in Piteå we now have a new guy running the show, Daniel Gustavsson. Daniel is a songwriter and music producer with a degree in music education and much experience in writing both rock and pop music.

Lets go up the hill

It´s time for change for the upSweden music community.
With the new year coming up its time to say hello to a couple of new players in the community.
Orcas communities in Skellefteå and Piteå will now be added to upSweden which brings another ten acts, four producers and two DJ:s to the mix. In Skellefteå the community will be run together with Skellefteå Musikförening with Thord Berglund leading the way, and in Piteå the community was created together with Kulturmagasinet with Kollfinn Olsen and Linda Björkman behind the wheel. Take a close look at some of the new acts presented on the acts section. Collaboration will be on a daily basis with a common technical base, shared forum and the possibility to get financial backing for travel and studio time when starting a joint venture. This means that today, upSweden music community represent almost the whole northern coast with the exception of Luleå. But stay tuned, we ain't resting!

 Digital Tone Festival 2003

More than one thousand people attended the fifth Digital Tone Festival which turned out a real treat for all hiphop and electronica fans in Umeå. Chris Clark from the legendary label Warp and Håkan Lidbo gave us some ruff Electronica which did not suite everybody but bewilderd those who took the time. Fattaru and Mobbade Barn Med Automatvapen both had great performances, bringing a smile on the faces on all the hip-hoppers in town.
But the thing that really took the happening to the next level were all the great performances from the upSweden acts. Muslaban and Hoova both had a great night with some nice presence and intensity while Moda Tem and Revolution Recorded gave some nice soft feelings. Newborn Apan and Addeboy also had great gigs turning their stage into small riot in both cases.
The upSweden crew and acts are already looking forward to the next festival, thanks to all of you who supported and attended this years festival.

 upSweden acts at circus and arts festival "Subörb"

August 8 - 17, 2003 , Botkyrka, a south-western Stockholm suburb becomes the capital of contemporary circus. Performers, groups, students and trainers from all over the world will gather to discuss, work together and perform for each other.
Several acts from upSweden music community, such as Muslaban, Grand Fusion, Atuna, Da Hoova, Nadie Affeca and Addeboy, will be preforming live at the partystage on the 13th of August. The partystage called "Kamelen" is the place for unsigned hiphop and electronica acts to show off their music and artistery. Drop by and check it out !!

 Visit us at the Nolia Messe

This years Nolia messe features a very special upSweden showcase with over 15 acts on stage. Many of the acts on stage will be performing for the first time but some familiar faces like Grand Fusion and Lukewarm will also be seen.
Other interesting conserts will be JPS performing solo without the other guys in Block44 and Apan, the band formely known as CFC-Holmsund. upSweden will also host some interesting workshops and seminars on sunday the third of August. Per Boysen will show us the lot on live looping and Simon Toclo will teach us how to produce like the pros, just to name a few! See you all there!

Thursday 5th of June, Swedish P3 radioshow Frank will be broadcasting a live consert from upSweden headquarters. Various unsigned acts from and outside upSweden will be performing on stage on this perticular night. Some of the acts on stage are Chandrika, Granary Floor and The Livestyle Club. The doors open at 17.30 and the entrance is free. It's bound to be a crowded house so don't be late. For all of you that can't come by, tune in at 95.8MHz and enjoy the gig at home!

 On the road again

upSweden goes back on the road this summer. Acts from upSweden will be performing at a bunch of different music-festivals and other venues this summer. In the month of May, upSweden acts can be seen at Umeafesten and the new upComing festival in Piteå. In June, our acts goes to Hultsfred for the second time around, to spread the word and to make new contacts!
Acts from upSweden will also later in the summer perform at Piteå Dansar och Ler, Stora Nolia, Trästockfestivalen and a new and exciting festival from Cirkus Cirkör called Subörb, where Hoova, Dulcet Noise, Kid Supreme and many other acts will be performing. Other great gigs will be The Lifestyle Club at Storsjöyran and Vänliga Jättar/Muslaban at the acclaimed electronica festival Norbergfestivalen. See ya out there.

The community is growing

There is litte doubt that the upSweden music community is making a name for itself. upSwedens inHouse-method has inspired both educational programs as well as music communities in other cities. One of the initial forces behind upSweden is Orca Music Education, a small company which specialises in music education. Orca have together with Skellefteå Musikförening, Studiefrämjandet and Kulturmagasinet Piteå opened up facilities and built projectstudios for young and talented songwriters in Piteå and Skellefteå. These new communities are not in any way part of or finasially supported by upSweden but they do share the manifest and vision of upSweden.
Many collaborations are being planned for the moment. Acts from the different communities tour toghether in Maj and some clinics that upSweden hosts will be offered to the other communities or the same way around.
It´s like history repeating itself says Christoffer Lundström from upSweden watching the birth and growth of these new communities. It so reminds me of where we were three, four years ago. Stay tuned for more info and news from the northern coast.

 Umeå Open 2003 is getting close

Welcome. It´s time for Umeå Open again! This festival, which has grown to become Sweden´s largest indoor festival, starts on Wednesday the 26th of March. Wednesday and Thursday, will be held here at the upSweden facilities. On Wednesday Umeå Open collaborates with the "She´s Got the Beat" association. A lot of local bands including the upSweden act Khumalo, are performing on the festival. There are also some major acts from other parts of the world performing. Entrance on Wednesday is free of charge!
Thursday's program is also held here at upSweden with, among others, the local acts Babord and Cult Of Luna. The festival then continues on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Umeå "Folkets Hus" with more great music and entertainment. The event
Popstad is since 1996 a yearly music event arranged by the national Swedish radio station p3. (Lund 1996, Umeå1997, Eskilstuna 1998, Sundsvall 1999, Malmö2000, Göteborg 2001 and Skellefteå2002.) This year Växjöwas the lucky city to get the exclusive title and I was there to hook up with important people of the Swedish music industry to tell them all about Upsweden.
The seminars
I started out my weekend in Växjöwith visiting some seminars. Among others, I listened to one seminar where Ola Salo (The Ark) and Anders Fridén (In Flames) talked about their experiences and thoughts about image, the life as an artist, and the true person behind the artist. There were many fun and interesting seminars held under the weekend, and fortunately everybody that didn’t get to listen to them in real life, are now able to listen to all of them onwww.sr.se. The bands
All together, there were thirty-six bands and artists who played at Popstad. Some of them were pretty well known, like The Ark, Doktor Kosmos and Dub Sweden, and others were upcoming like Emmon. (Emma Nylen, picture to the right) -the coolest electro female right now.

One big and historical thing that happened during Popstad in Växjöthis year, was the worlds first live radio broadcasting ever with DTS.

 Promonights at upSweden

upSweden will be hosting a series of conserts this spring with new unsigned acts from northern Sweden. All events will be free of charge and start at 19.00 the last saterday every month.

 Upcoming studio action

The other morning when most of the upSweden crew had just stepped thru the office door, Andreas made a somewhat disturbing discovery. The main studio is, as it should be, a room inside a room. However, there was a strange and quite loud noise coming from between the walls, and this is far from what should be. It proved to be a broken water pipe that had been leaking for God knows how long. The landlord guys rushed over to fix the leak, but hopefully the real damage won’t show for another year or so :)
Anyway, the studio premises seems unaffected, which is darn good luck, since some hectic times lies ahead of us. Four of our acts are booked for studio recordings in the near future. First up is Trifect, the hip-hop act consisting of notorious rapper Hoova, producer Rico and DJ Logan. Next up is Livestyle Club, the crossover act former known as Quasimodos, with some exciting new tracks ready to be shared with the rest of the world. Later in February, Gustav and his numerous fellows in Una Vida De Mentiras enter the studio to make what we expect to be a massive recording. In the beginning of March Chandrika will be recording some poetic sweets that surely will come as a soothing treat to us all when the dark and cold winter starts to get to us.
So by spring, several of our acts will have new material available in HiFi. Stay tuned.

 upSweden signing up Simon Tocclo to teach music production

Professional music producer Simon Tocclo has agreed to pass on some of his knowledge and experience to in-house producers and artists at upSweden. Among other things students will learn about the following:
Just what is it like being a music producer? What's the magic trick to plan, fulfil and finish a project? How coaching no-name artists? How to produce friends and still keep up friendship? Remix and Guest appearance - how does it work? What's the difference between Mixing and Mastering? Do we need "beat brokers", "agents" and "managers"?
Simon is signed to Warner Chappell as a songwriter. His work as a producer is currently showcased on the European remix of The Most Talented's "The Magi" as well as the single "Time 2 Shine" in Europe with the producer-collective Soul Affect led by the legendary Sean Barney Thomas (Dr Dre, Snoop Dog, Lady of Rage, Denise Lopez) released on Reactive music/Warner Chappell.  upSweden Stockholm Showcase party

Last Saturday upSweden brought a bunch of good bands to Stockholm, at least a thousand kilometers south of Umeå, to give the capitol a taste of northern vibe. Of course the party was great, and the evening did also turn out as a promotional success, since the attending music industry people were quite impressed by the performances.
Khumalo opened up the show and had the crew dancing in minutes. Good work, guys! The new songs sounded just gorgeous. Then Muslaban kicked off their set. Apparently the instrument Thereminovox was new to some in the audience, as they just kept staring, mouth open, at the two onstage antennas delivering those haunted sounds we all know from old sci-fi horror movies. Massive! Next band Grand Fusion has been playing a lot of gigs lately and they were really kicking this night. The guest vocalist Lina Högström made a great attribution. When the audience kept waiting for CFC Holmsund a gorilla suddenly ran up by the drum kit and started hammering off. The rappers joined in as well and CFC rocked as usual. No bass and guitars this night, though. But a gorilla drummer… phiew, the poor guy must have been over heated inside that fur! The last act came on as a surprise - only one guy with an acoustic guitar. But many were truly breath taken by Jonas Lundströms performance. Every little string sound or whisper of his voice came out extremely clear and you had the feeling that he was taking big, big risks to pour all that emotion into his songs. But he always landed the melody on the right pitch and managed to catch up with the right tempo just on time.
A big thanks to Orca and Folkuniversitet who made this memorable night possible. Actually this was also the opening day of Orca Stockholm Studios. Educational programs will be held in these facilities, the first course coming out already by mid October.

 upSweden takes on FameFactory

Stay tuned to Swedish television TV3 for the next 10 weeks, cause Chris from upSweden will be showing skills at the Fame Factory show. There will be no singing and dancing, though. Christoffer, together with Anders Glantz from Steinberg/Fitzpatrick, are in charge of all the education concerning music technology and recording. Two days a week Chris and Anders will be working with the students at Fame Factory to teach them how they can make use of modern music technology in their songwriting.
- I´m really surprised over the professionalism in this project, Christoffer says. Everything is tip-top, from the facilities to the various teacher or the talent of the students.
Fame Factory have gathered 14 of Swedens most talented performers in a music complex in Skara, Sweden. Besides music technology, they are also practicing vocal expression, stage presence, dancing and many other things relevant to being a professional performer and songwriter. Every week there is a new show with performers on stage, and one of them has to leave the school after each show, until there is only one left - the |
